Gary, your crack at lawyers is meaningless. Who knows but that Microsoft's annual expenditures on lawyers exceeds that of the Justice Department. Microsoft's annual income after taxes in 1999 was $7,785,000,000. 7.785 billion dollars. What do you think they can and do spend on lawyers, pal? The entire legal wing of the United States--a country of 300 million people and the leader of the world--should be begrudged a measly $114 million??? 1.46% of Microsofts annual after-tax income??? Of which a mere fraction can be spent taking on Microsoft?? Gimme a break. Get real. In this battle Justice is the total underdog. Their task is even heroic--like the Minutemen taking on Cornwallis' troops. Microsoft is the bully picking on the little guy here. So let's get back to reality. You talk about "big government" but you have no idea what the numbers really mean.

By the way, calling it "obviously socialistic" doesn't cut it for serious criticism, sorry, you'll have to do much better than trot out that shibboleth.

We can debate how legitimate the action against Microsoft is, but when it brings a legitimate anti-trust action, the Justice Department is defending the capitalism and free markets that you hold dear. You ought to be saying hurray for Justice! VBG Why is that so hard for you folks to understand? VBG

Cordially,

Brian
