i must be dumber than a firecracker...i get it now...we are playing semantics...sorry, i am not good at that.
straightforward is my style.

i believe there are devices made from SiC that have been patented by cree. i consider anything made from SiC to be a use for SiC.

cree's 64 patents can be found at the link...happy reading!

Patents and the 10Q...

(Emerging briefly from Lurker shadows...)

The CREE 10Q of 1/31/00 (exhibit 99.1)has an extended description of patent risks, and makes two new (to me, at least) points. One, the core patent is licensed from NC State U. The loss of exclusive rights to that patent could weaken CREE's control of technology (a gorilla attribute). CREE says that loss is unlikely, but not impossible.

Two, developments in Europe may cause the company to lose its unique status in that market. There's no similar reference in prior 10Q or 8K documents. I wonder what prompted that? Perhaps developments at Siemens?

The 10Q also mentions the firm's equity interests in MVIS, which is seeking CREE's sale of MVIS shares. I'm not familiar with MVIS. Perhaps some of the secondary offering proceeds will buy out MVIS shareholders?
