FC-PGA -> PPGA Converter (HARDWARE)

PowerLeap now has a converter that allows users to install Coppermine processors, as well as VIA's upcoming Joshua, into Socket 370 motherboards. This product, the PL-S370, should allow Celeron owners to easily upgrade to Pentium III Coppermine processors.

Of course, there are a few caveats. The Socket-370 motherboard must support bus frequencies of 100 MHz and 133 MHz to effectively use the Pentium IIIs. Also, it is unlikely that SMP will be possible, as it has been disabled on the new Pentium IIIs.

For those wondering when this converter will be available, you should be able to purchase it directly from the PowerLeap website starting in March for under $20.

Thanks to JC for the link.

Re: "The lost-in-the-hills-mine keeps up only with near unavailable and horribly expensive chipsets and memory. "

If it was "lost in the hills" it still sold well over 2X the Athlons sold and did so in a capacity constrained manufacturing system. Imagine what it will do when the capacity issue is resolved?

Re: "With the specter of Willamette looming, clearly the end is in sight": With the copper products of Dresden looming, clearly prospects have never been so bright!

Good one Dan but you should have said: looming and looming and looming and looming and .......
