I don't know. Won't your Pentium III processor ID fend them off? <g>

Jim,

how dedicated are you to software?
:o)

I use a K6-2 with Linux as my gateway/firewall.
The Linux kernel comes with an IPCHAINS module that you
can write a script for and implement any security you need.
I run NT on another machine thru the Linux firewall.
Most of the time, I run as another user on the same gateway box. No big deal.

I use Ethereal for a sniffer running at the same time on the firewall, and IPCHAINS can be set for logging. So any attempts to scan, or connect to any services your machine may be running by default, you will know who, when, and how.

Anyway............

Check your Windows security here. His server (with your permission) will attempt to get into all of your possible open ports and services running.

Choose "Shields Up" section.

It has a lot of commercial firewall software available too.

With Linux set up the way I use it, everything on my system responds to his attempts as "Stealth".

A lot of the net's hacks use Linux now, so many tools are available that I couldn't find for Win98.
