>Buying some fuel oil futures would have made some good bucks for us.

I was thinking the identical thing myself after my friend called this morning.

>I locked the fuel oil price in last summer by prepaying my dealer. The dealer locks in the price by buying fuel oil futures.

I have some friends and relatives in PA who do the same thing you do, NW. When I first heard their oil companies did this, I called around to find out if any did this up here, too. No luck. The few companies I called that did not basically say, "No," then politely end the call expressed surprise over why a company would want to do something this risky. So I deal with one of the few companies that only deal COD to keep costs down.

Right now I have almost 7/8 of a tank but only because I started buring that trash wood (fast growing poplar). I am about a day ahead of needs when it comes to splitting right now. I keep eying the two, beautiful, **split** cords of seasoned oak I have had under cover for 3 years but won't touch that until I get rid of this trash. Well, I bring in enough each day to stoke the stove just before I go to bed so as to be assured of nice coals the next morning.

I don't know how poor people in the city are handling these fuel prices. At least where I live everyone, rich or poor, has a wood stove and can get wood for free if they want to cut and transport it. Heck, I'd love a bus load of lower income people to drive up to my house and ask if I would mind if they go in my woods and cut up and take some of the fallen trees. I'd borrow the 50 cup coffee maker from my neighbors and make them lunch!

Hummm...
