Cree must use language like that to protect themselves. The best way to get a feel for the competitive threat is to speak to management which I have done on many occasions. I am not privy to their licensing agreements but, again, management did not give me the impression that they had the potential to offer an economic threat.

More interesting on the licensing front is the ability of Cree to issue licenses that would have meaningful revenue potential as SiC markets for products heat up. They have resisted this because of the their concern for others having the ability to make wafers and epitaxel coating of wafers in volume and commercial quality. They have enought trouble doing it themselves with the best scientits in their own plant. But they are open to the idea and will probably do that when they feel they can control the process remotely.
