Nichia scored a coup last week when it demonstrated its development at the Tokyo meeting with a laser pointer of the type used to highlight images for conference presentations. The 400-nm violet-blue light emitted by the pointer created a stir among observers. Now that would cause quite a stir. Wish I could have been there. :-) Gus, I may be wrong, but my understanding is that Nichia's Blue lasers are GaN. Didn't Shuji Nakamura make his breaktrhoughs by working with GaN for blue LED's when everyone else was betting on ZnS?
