Goutama, Well I know what I'll be getting for a MB. Kx133 chipset with a socket A spitfire... I want the best bang for the buck. I might go TBIRD. But one thing is for sure...

Kx133 is a MUST with GeForce 256

I've got a couple of K6-2 Systems the kids are using now. I guess I'll pump them up with the K6-2+ chips in March/April.

This stuff is just too kewl.

Goutama - RE: "I'm delighted with this chipsets performance with PC133. we might see some more performance improvements, as the product matures and the required drivers are fine tuned."

I agree, KX133's performance is very good vs. the i840's.

The i840 platform has a peak of 3.2GB/s of memory bandwidth (or something like that) vs. the KX133's 1.06GB/s and the Athlon platform is still superior and of course cheaper. This goes to show how the Athlon is a superior processor and probably the effectiveness of the 200MHz fsb.

Imagine what happens when the Athlon gets its own on-chip L2 cache and a chipset that allows up to 2.1 GB/s of memory bandwidth! <drool>

As I said earlier, AMD NEEDS a SMP capable chipset ASAP. They are missing out on LOTS of potential sales.

Goutama, re:KX133. I'm waiting to find out if KX133 can overclock the FSB better than Irongate. Several Irongate Slot A boards were released with adjustable front-side bus for 100 to 125 MHz, but nothing worked over 110 MHz. Commercial KXX-133 boards should have this capability.

Goutama,

<Via did a very good job with their KX133 design.>

This may very well be true but the thing that I do not like is that this is not timely. There is more than a full quarter lag in PIII and Athlon chipsets. VIA has put Athlon chipset roadmap behind PIII chipset roadmap. AMD can benefit from someone else who is willing to put Athlon at the top of their lists (it is OK if it is a smaller player).
