Do not take this at face value. First, it might just be an excuse.

But more importantly, these companies are saying that they cannot get enough of a specific Intel processor speed. (I think it was the P-III-750). This does not translate into a general shortage of semiconductors and a huge demand for semi equipment.

That demand is there, but this ain't the reason.
