Brian, Is kilocycle the same as kilohertz?

Yes, the names were changed to Hertz, Kilohertz, Megahertz, etc. (70s?) amid some controversy, because some thought Mr. Hertz was a bit obscure. Maybe they reasoned Kilomaxwells would be too difficult (Maxwell was the "superstar" of wave theory.) Here's a mini-bio of Hertz:
