John, it sounds like you may have missed an all-time copperhead record.

I stumbled upon one once that I could have sworn was 10 feet long. Once I calmed down and looked again it turned out he was only 1/3 that size...

It was wound around a bunch of sticks and mud and stuff. And I understand that the exact power of visual measurement is more difficult when you are back peddling at about 60 MPH (also a record, I think).

Seriously, this was the first one I had seen. The other golfers in my foursome said this one was the largest they has ever seen.

Next time I'll pack a tape measure, and ask for a volunteer to hold each end of the snake.
