I read a few posts back that TVGIA is the preferred way to invest in GMST based on its price and the merger deal.Is that advice current?

I'm not sure that I would risk investing in TVGIA to get a "discount" on GMST shares. Yes it's true that TVGIA is selling at a discount relative to the merger exchange ratio. However, a couple of professional Arbs aren't playing the arb, as there is still some risk that the Govt. could kill the deal. Should the deal collapse, then the value of TVGIA, in my opinion would quickly decline.
