Good work Douglas on posting these articles. I was reading some of the posts on the Gorilla thread and find it funny how adverse they were to letting the experts discuss technical aspects of FC. I find it very refreshing on this thread and the Ancor thread that the technical experts can go at and get into every detail then we make our own judgement. I don't think you find a baby gorilla by ignoring the details. You find a baby gorilla by hearing the experts debate the strengths and weakness in great detail, analyzing their financial model, and then looking at the big picture, and the main trends that are occurring along with the various competitive technologies, and then you figure out the optimum progression that technology could take and then picture how the optimum network could come about. If things don't go together now, will they go together in a couple years, and how could that impact the status quo? I think Edwin Lee had some very interesting comments about the many strengths of Fibre Channel that could lead to it evolving into a formidable breed of technology.

It is not easy to know how techology will evolve, otherwise companies like IBM would have just bought up Microsoft, Cisco, etc.. when they were babies. The only reason gorillas grow up into full blown monsters, is the experts valuation of these companies is always way behind the true value curve in the emerging paradigm. To pay the perceived premium can be difficult for these companies because it is difficult to be sure how the market will evolve. Cisco paid a premium for Cerent, which, if they integrate it properly could help Cisco to reach supergorilla status. It was a hefty premium it had to pay to get in the gorilla game for optical networking.

I see Fibre Channel gaining strength as the market evolves, through economies of scale and superior qualities that will lead to eventually more and more wins against competing technologies. With the infiniband FC combo, I think Ancor has the potential to be in the gorilla game in a few years.
