Re: I suspect your average ASP model for Athlon is flawed...

Could be - it's hard to estimate out that far.

Nonetheless, I'm optimistic that Athlon Ultra will be getting a nice chunk of the higher-ASP business desktop / lower-end server market by Q4, and that VIA's chips will represent a significant part of the non-Intel low end - so that the volumes of select chips will not be as large as they might otherwise have been.

I'd also guess at a quarterly run rate of something greater than 45m CPUs / quarter for the whole market by Q4 as European and Asian demand continues its growth. Increasing automation in those markets should lead to large increases (from a low base - even as a percentage of sales) of higher-end chips for departmental server use. The European market will probably show significant preference for a European manufactured chip, the Asian market will probably be more neutral - but more price sensitive, leading to decent demand for mid and high end Athlons (thus maintaining ASPs as the Athlon family moves from high-mid to high-mid-low.

Thanks for your comments!

Dan

Kash <Resale numbers in pricewatch will likely be 30-50% higher in unit 1 volumes.>

I have been wondering about the relationship between the lowest Pricewatch quote and AMD's wholesale price. The lowest PW listing likely has a very low margin.

The most recent "official" AMD prices (from The Register, 1/24, OEM prices in lots of 1,000 except 800 MHz) were in fact higher than the best PW listing (Goutama 1/24):

Speed AMD PW
550 $217 $189
600 $246 $216
650 $292 $261
700 $483 $459
750 $585 $569
800 $790 $779

Any thoughts?
