It doesn't look like LED will be replacing light bulbs in the home anytime soon .. I found a LED 120 volt bulb comparable to a 60 watt incandescent bulb listed for a mere $462.00 each . Despite this absurd price some of the smaller ones in 12 volt do have uses on sites like yachts where even small bulbs will suck batteries dry in a surprisingly short time.

uwgb.edu has tests of various LED flashlights
So far, it looks like most of the white LED I find are made by Nichia. I hope this is because the CREE products are so new and not due to some inherent problem with Cree products.
