Angel,

It is interesting that in Nov and Dec, Y2000 was going to be DELL's year in the sun according to the analysts. Now a month later, DELL is in the dog house and they apparently want CPQ and GTW in the dog house too.

What has changed besides a component shortage?

The analysts projections for DELL's growth have not changed and have been in the low to mid 30's for many months before DELL's announcement. A few analyst were using 38-40% revenue growth.
In essence, there has been no change in the quant's positions.

Trading in options or one's own stock is not considered part of GAAP earnings.
