I'd recommend that people PM the authors of a post if there's something they don't understand. I mean, most of the G&K regulars are patient and generous with newbies, especially if approached in the right way...

Sometimes I want to know more and I try to think of the least intimidating person on the thread and I throw them a PM. I've done it a few times.
