Don't assume they got through the other ones either. LOL

I think I need to print the reports and then get a tech dictionary for Dummies. Actually anybody got a link to one. I can search the area book stores since I live in tech land.

What can I do to clarify?

That's very kind of you to ask, Buck. But it's not you. It's me. You haven't been around long enough to appreciate the long-standing joke about carpetologists. So you'll just have to accept it when I tell you that I'm a carpetologist and it's unreasonable to expect you to overcome my limitations. :)

<<Re>><<Aw, geez! If you guys and gals can get thru...
but not Fibre Channel and SANs..>>
I am interested in how this could affect the future of the NAS vs SAN fight for the storage market?

Buck, I wasn't looking for an apology, but I appreciate the spirit of your post. Here's the problem, at least here's mine.

An industry (electronics/optics/software) person can thread his way through the hype in press releases. A lay person usually cannot, thus has no way to evaluate the respective claims. Everyone is the "world's leading...." or has the "breakthrough technology in...". Doesn't mean they're not smart...one of my good friends is an attorney, and while he can't read a yardstick, he's a whiz in finance.

So, Fiber and SAN are new ways for a PC to write to a disk or tape. That I understand. Is that significant? I dunno, but there must be a reason why someone would bother developing it. What's that reason? To whom (what customer group) is it important. Any idea how important? Now? Sometime soon? Later? That's the stuff I can manage.

The acronyms do slow things down. The other day, someone used bte. I knew what he meant, but someone else didn't and asked. The poster answered. Result, two posts that could have been avoided by saying "barriors to entry" in words instead of shorthand.
