SteveG, Thanks for posting those nice articles. Here is something from the current issue of the Technology Investor Magazine "Kevin Landis is the portfolio manager of the stunningly successful Firsthand family of technology funds. Firsthand Technology Value (TVFQX) ranked number one out of 4,669 mutual funds for five-year total return to June 30, 1999. It earned a stunning 612.5%. Landis runs two other funds and has a hand in two more. His Firsthand Technology Leaders (TLFQX) holds blue-chip tech companies, while his Firsthand Technology Innovators (TIFQX) finds small, up-and-coming companies destined to dominate new markets. It's now closed to new investment. Firsthand e-Commerce (TEFQX), run by a Firsthand team that includes Landis, concentrates on providers of e-commerce hardware, software and service. The team also runs Firsthand Communications (TCFQX), which holds the companies building and servicing the world's networks. Kevin?s website is www.firsthandfunds.com." Osicom is the top holding for Firsthand Communications Fund:firsthandfunds.com His other funds also hold Osicom. Here is an excerpt from an interview that he gave to Technology Investor Magazine is publishes in their current issue: "We recently had the enormous pleasure of interviewing Landis. We published eight, key ?executive conclusions? from our interview in our Premiere issue, page 64. Meantime, here is the full interview. Technology Investor Magazine: How was your background at S-MOS and Dataquest helpful in your role as a portfolio manager? Landis: Helpful isn?t a strong enough word. I?d say instrumental. You have to ask what would pull me out of high tech ? which is a very exciting industry ? into money management? What I discovered was that I had an advantage that would be difficult for people to copy. And that?s the basis for the word ?firsthand.? Firsthand means we have industry experience and industry contacts. When you leave an industry you still keep your contacts. Not to sound like a geek, but tech folks give me a lot of interesting little pixel-sized inputs about their business. These inputs can really help me assess companies, if I have the context to assemble the information. That?s where my background helps. TIM: Why have you been so successful at beating the averages and the other funds? Landis: It doesn?t hurt to own the right companies while everyone else is still discovering them. More than anything, it has been the firsthand contacts and the home-field advantage. Coming out of industry does not make me the most insightful person in the world, but it does give me the background to get good takeaways from conversations with technology professionals. I try to be a good student when talking to people."technologyinvestor.com Regards, Afaq Sarwar
