Mephisto,

There have been 9 splits, with the timing broken down as follows:

(Split dates):
February (2)
March (4)
May (1)
Aug (1)
Nov (1)

So, based on that, with the current price factored in, the odds favor a split in early-to-mid March. But there's more!

The highest price at the time of the split (not the time of declaration) was 123, which occured at the last split. The average price at which a split has occured has gone up by 10% on average each time. If this pattern repeats, next split would occur at a price of approximately 135. It would be announce 5 to 6 weeks beforehand, at a price similar to today's. By March 24 it will have been 10 months since the last split.

The time between splits usually is a year or so, but it was 9 months between the 1998 split and the 1999 split, so it would not be shocking to have one in March. Since there is a five to six week delay between announcement and actual split, the announcement could come tomorrow. For them to wait much longer they would either have to 1) go outside their normal split parameters and have a 3:1, which they will not do, or 2) follow the split with another split shortly thereafter, which would be very unusual.

See investor.cisco.com for details of past splits.
