United States Army Selects TimeStep Secure VPN Solution
from Newbridge Networks: Secure VPN solution meets
stringent U.S. Army security and support standards

NEWS RELEASE TRANSMITTED BY CANADIAN CORPORATE NEWS

FOR: NEWBRIDGE NETWORKS CORPORATION

TSE SYMBOL: NNC
NYSE SYMBOL: NN

FEBRUARY 7, 2000

FORT KNOX, KENTUCKY--Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC)
today announced that the U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) has
chosen to deploy the TimeStep Secure VPN (virtual private network)
Solution from Newbridge Networks. The Command procured the
TimeStep solution for more than 14,000 remote dial-up users
because of its adherence to government and industry standards, and
DoD PKI (Department of Defense Public Key Infrastructure) support.
The remote communication solution is being deployed from U.S. Army
recruiting offices worldwide to recruiting headquarters located at
Fort Knox, KY.

"We evaluated several VPN vendors over a six month period and
selected the TimeStep solution based on its overall performance,
integration, DoD PKI compliance, and feature set," said Shawn
Clay, Chief, Data Branch, U.S. Army Recruiting Command. "Newbridge
Networks delivers on a reliable and comprehensive VPN platform
better suited for USAREC's remote user environment than the other
products evaluated."

One of the factors in selecting the TimeStep Secure VPN Solution
from Newbridge Networks was the incorporation of the DoD PKI - a
critical element in authenticating DoD users. PKIs ensure user
authentication for the purposes of communication throughout both
internal and external networks, providing the foundation necessary
for secure communications. As such, the Newbridge(r) 130 Secure
VPN Client met the USAREC's requirement for authenticating over
14,000 remote dial-up users accessing mission-critical systems.

"This selection by the U.S Army Recruiting Command reinforces our
commitment to a scalable, robust solution with an emphasis on
industry standards," said Tim Hember, Vice President, VPN,
Newbridge Networks. "We value this relationship and will continue
to build a VPN solution that is feature-rich and ideal for
large-scale deployments."

Further to the support of the DoD PKI, the U.S. Department of
Defense requires strict adherence to industry standards, such as
FIPS 140-1, and IPSec. The TimeStep solution is fully
IPSec-compliant and has been certified as FIPS 140-1, level two
compliant; a standard that is required of all cryptographic
products before federal clients, such as the U.S. Army, will
purchase them. By ensuring that it is virtually impossible for an
intruder to tamper with the module, FIPS 140-1 standard compliance
makes encryption products better equipped to protect sensitive
communications, especially within the Department of Defense.

The Newbridge Solution was noted for its virtual tunneling
features, which enable mobile users to log in to their privately
addressed corporate network, from any ISP, and surf the Internet
transparently without requiring Network Address Translation (NAT).
The virtual tunneling capability also provides valuable
flexibility in the design process of full VPN architecture, which
involves increased security planned by the Command for the coming
year.

In addition to VPN client software, the Newbridge 237 Secure VPN
gateway, an IPSec-compliant hardware device suitable for high
bandwidth applications for large-scale deployments, was selected
and deployed for the central server locations of the U.S. Army
Recruiting Command. The Newbridge 237 was deployed for its
ability to handle 2000 simultaneous sessions and greater than 70
Mb/s throughput.

Newbridge Networks Provides High Performance Networking Solution for U.S.
Defense Agencies Stationed in Korea

Networking Solution Supports Agencies' Mission Critical Communications

HERNDON, Virginia, January 5, 1999 -- Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC) today announced that it is providing a high
performance networking solution to support the mission critical communications requirements of the U.S. Defense Department's agencies stationed
in the Republic of Korea (ROK). These agencies, which include the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines, protect the demilitarized zone separating
North and South Korea. The high capacity asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network backbone provided by Newbridge will help the Defense
Department realize its goal of bringing centralized network and service management capabilities across one virtual wide area network (WAN).

The network will span 24 locations throughout South Korea, supporting next-generation services and applications, including: high-resolution imaging
for intelligence, maneuver control and medical applications, including secure and non-secure voice; Internet Protocol (IP); encrypted data; and
broadcast quality video. It also supports the Armed Forces Korean Network's television and radio stations, which provides quality programming for
military personnel and their families.

The flexible, highly scalable Newbridge solution is comprised of the industry-leading Siemens / Newbridge MainStreetXpress 36170 MultiServices
Switch, the MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager and the MainStreetXpress 36150 Access Switch -- a high-capacity, multi-services platform
designed to support native cell relay, broadcast quality video and IP services.

The MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager is a cost-effective, highly scalable networking solution that is capable of centrally monitoring and
managing multiple-traffic networks, providing network partitioning -- a feature that sets it apart from other vendor offerings. It can support and
manage more than 250,000 service connections simultaneously, and its high scalability allows more than 120 operators located throughout the world
to monitor the network at the same time.

"The goal of the Defense Department was to design a network with unmatched performance and reliability," said Giulio Gianturco, Executive Vice
President and General Manager for North and South America, Newbridge Networks. "We believe the solution we have developed will serve as a
model for other military organizations that look to the U.S. Department of Defense for procurement leadership."

Newbridge Networks designs, manufactures, markets and services networking solutions to organizations in more than 100 countries. The Company
leverages its relationship with a growing family of Newbridge Affiliate companies and strategic alliances with Siemens and 3Com Corporation to
deliver seamless, end-to-end solutions. Newbridge customers include the world's 300 largest telecommunications service providers and more than
10,000 corporations, government organizations and other institutions. Founded in 1986, the Company employs more than 6,000 people on five

U.S. Marine Corps Selects the TimeStep Secure VPN Solution for Over 120,000 Users

QUANTICO, VA, SAN DIEGO, CA, December 6, 1999 -- Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC) today announced that the U.S. Navy
and the U.S. Marine Corps are conducting lab testing of the TimeStep secure VPN (virtual private network) solution from Newbridge Networks. In
addition, the Marine Corps has selected and is procuring the TimeStep solution for its standard enterprise VPN network of over 120,000 users. The
solution is being deployed at major U.S. Marine Corps bases throughout the world.

"Based on a detailed lab evaluation and successful beta deployment at six bases, the Marine Corps has selected and procured the TimeStep solution
from Newbridge Networks for its standard enterprise VPN for both garrison and deployed tactical networks," said Captain Carl Wright, U.S. Marine
Corps. "This technology will play an integral role in securing SBU communications in combat situations."

"This is a further significant milestone for Newbridge Networks in the key government industry vertical market. We are confident that this is another
in a series of successful steps between Newbridge and the U.S. Department of Defense," said Tim Hember, vice president, VPN, Newbridge
Networks.

The U.S. Navy has evaluated several VPN products within its test lab at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) Systems
Center in San Diego, including the TimeStep solution from Newbridge Networks. A key factor in the testing was the evaluation of the capability to
incorporate the Defense Department's Public Key Infrastructure (DOD PKI) - a critical element in authenticating DOD users - into the TimeStep
VPN solution. This means that DOD Intranet users from all branches of the military, including the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Army, can be
authenticated using digital certificates.

"There is significant progress being made here on the path towards incorporating DOD PKI capabilities into its products," said Captain Dan Galik,
U.S. Navy. "The U.S. Defense Departments require strict adherence to industry standards, such as FIPS 140-1, and IPSec, hence our support for
these types of solutions."

The Navy has developed an innovative security solution that uses secure VPNs in an architecture that provides a VPN gateway alongside the
firewall. Together, the TimeStep solution from Newbridge Networks, with the DOD PKI, enables applications that include secure remote access and
tele-maintenance. This allows the Navy's ships at sea to securely reach technical experts at major shore commands and provide specialized assistance.
