Newell Rubbermaid Announces Stock Repurchase Program

FREEPORT, Ill., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Newell Rubbermaid Inc. (NYSE: NWL; CHX) today announced a stock repurchase program of the Company's outstanding stock. The Board of Directors have announced an expenditure of up to $500 million for the repurchase.

"Based on our current valuation, we find our stock repurchase program to be an excellent use of capital," stated John J. McDonough, Newell Rubbermaid's Vice Chairman and CEO. "The decision to repurchase shares underscores our focus on shareholder value and confidence in our management team and earnings growth potential."

The extent to which the Company repurchases its shares and the timing of such purchases will depend upon market conditions and other corporate considerations. Purchases may be made in the open market as well as in negotiated or block transactions. The repurchase program will remain in effect until December 31, 2000.
