ACeS is a Geo satellite based mobile phone and long-distance communications system
based on GSM.

This seems like it would be Gilder's worst nightmare. Geo Satellite + GSM = 2 ineffective technologies, whereas GSTRF uses LEOS + CDMA (two very efficient technologies). i wouldn't consider ACeS long-term competition.

<<We expect ACeS to be a successful mobile satellite telephone and competitive long-distance provider in Asia with roughly 1.7 billion POPs and roughly 400 million GSM users over 10 years.>>

Does this number of potential users for ACeS portend what lies ahead for Globalstar? If so, it sounds like very good news. The only problem for Globalstar in the future would appear to be system capacity constraints even if they only acquire users in the two-thirds of the world not covered by ACeS.

Also, this line comes from the most recent Spear Report (2-7), "In the next year, the company will launch positioning services, fax services and data services, at speeds about equivalent to a 56k modem." Can someone address the accuracy of that statement? Thanks
