*OT* 2,777 companies registered in Dec'99; Maharashtra tops the list

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 7: Companies registered in India grew unabated during December last with 2,777 new companies coming into existence as compared to 2,527 new registrations in the corresponding period 1998.

The highest number of registration of companies were from Maharashtra (720) followed by Delhi (426), Andhra Pradesh (266), Tamil Nadu (253), West Bengal (205) and Gujarat (174), the statement said adding that the six states accounted for nearly 74 per cent of the registration.

According to Industrial Classification, Manufacturing Companies (1007) topped the list, followed by financial, real estate and business services (705) and trading firms, restaurants and hotels (481) respectively
