Dear David,

Those (useless, good for nothing) poplars were BBBBBBBBBBBIG. I am splitting the bases of some of them now and before making this reply, I went outside with my measuring tape to make sure I gave the correct diameter: 27".

>For those fast growing trees, just let them grow to about 8 inches at the base and cut them down.

Now you tell me! Geez, at 8" I could have cut those stupid things down myself then just cut them into lengths for burning (except near the base)!

Here's a funny story: Over the weekend a friend and her husband stopped by to visit while I was outside splitting some wood with wedges and the sledge hammer. The husband said he would give me a hand and asked if I had an axe. I said the wood was to big and had too many knots for an axe but he insisted so I got him one. Talk about huffing and puffing like the Big Bad Wolf trying to blow the third little pig's brick house down! The axe didn't split anything, just got stuck. I remained silent. His wife nudged me in the ribs.

Rather than give up and use the wedges, he next asked if I had a maul. Well, I do so I went to the shed and fetched it. Yes, the same huffing and puffing and getting the maul stuck.

With this I said, "Let's just go in the house and visit. I'll deal with this trash later."

You have extra wedges? If they are older one's I'll take them! Three of the ones I'm using now are only on loan. The ones in stores today are not as good as the old ones. The old ones came in different lengths and widths.

Regards,

Lynn
