American Power Conversion is First Power Protection Vendor to Obtain Product Certification of Windows 2000 From Microsoft
Certified Products Include New USB Functionality for Windows 2000
WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- American Power Conversion (APC) announced today that it is the first power protection vendor to receive Microsoft's "Certified for Windows" logo for its uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Nearly 100 APC UPSs and related accessories were tested by the Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQLs) which determined that the APC solutions meet Microsoft's standards for compatibility with Windows 2000.
"Today's announcement is yet another example of how APC is leading the power protection industry with its support for Windows 2000," said Peter Rumsey, vice president of APC's Enterprise Systems Group. "By being the first UPS vendor to obtain this prestigious certification, we are giving Microsoft customers peace-of-mind that their APC UPS and accessories meet the stringent criteria Microsoft has defined for Windows 2000-ready hardware products."
"In awarding APC the 'Certified for Windows' logo, our customers know that APC's UPSs and accessories will integrate seamlessly with the Windows 2000 operating system," said Keith White, director, Windows Marketing, Microsoft Corporation. "By putting APC solutions through rigorous testing, we are verifying that these products are easy to use, stable and work well with Windows 2000 'out of the box'."
Certified solutions include the following APC lines: Back-UPS(R), Back-UPS Pro(R), Smart-UPS(R), Matrix-UPS(R), Symmetra(R) Power Array(TM), PowerStack(TM) and Redundant Switch. APC's Back-UPS Pro 350 and 500, the industry's first UPS with a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port, also received certification for Windows 2000. The Back-UPS Pro 350 and 500 enables users to take full advantage of features in Windows 2000, such as hibernation. When APC's Back-UPS Pro 350 or 500 is used with an ACPI-enabled system, the hibernation feature saves the contents of memory to disk in the event of an extended power outage. When AC line power resumes, the system will be returned to its pre-power event state. APC is a charter member of the USB Implementers Forum and plays a significant role in defining USB specifications for power devices.
Today's announcement rounds out APC's support for Windows 2000. APC was the only power protection company selected by Microsoft to write the built-in UPS management code for Windows 2000. Additionally, APC's PowerChute plus UPS management software will offer more sophisticated UPS management capabilities for network administrators to help increase the overall reliability and availability of Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0-based desktops, workstations and servers.
"APC's comprehensive hardware and software support for Windows 2000 means that Microsoft customers can rest assured that APC's UPS hardware and software can fully address their power protection needs whether they are running a workstation or managing a datacenter," continued Rumsey of APC.
