The Egyptians have a western built and trained air force and they are likely to defend the Saudies against Saddam. In fact many would come to the defense of Saudi Arabia if it came to that. The Emirates is a fake country like Monaco. It is there only to give the Arabs a vehicle to share commerce with the west while pretending not to soil their own traditions. The problem with taking a back seat and making the Middle East clean up their own back yard is that they would come out of it extremely powerful.
