Austrian far-right minister receives invitation to EU meeting

BRUSSELS, Feb 7 (AFP) - Austria's far-right social affairs minister Elisabeth Sickl is being invited to a meeting with EU counterparts in Lisbon on Friday, but it remains to be seen how welcome she will be.

Portugal's mission to the European Union in Brussels confirmed Monday that Sickl, a prominent member of Joerg Haider's Freedom Party, was being invited to the day-long informal gathering of social affairs ministers.

"The invitation was sent Monday afternoon," an official at the mission told AFP, ending several days of speculation in Brussels as to whether Sickl, 59, would be asked to attend.

Funny to watch the same politicos, who only yesterday were so outraged at what has happened in Austria, going all coy about inviting a neofascistic Minister to a EU meeting --but hey! as the PR states it, "it remains to be seen how welcome she will be." WHEW! I'm relieved.... Ms Sickl, nicknamed Royal Cobra, is in for a chilly reception --she won't be yodelled aboard!!
