Hello Paul,

I've been busy in meetings the last several days ... and have been trying to follow the changes and announcements. I just saw a post on the Gilder thread that the "iChain" announcements will be tomorrow (Tuesday) and that might bring some interesting coverage ...

> Stewart Nelson appointed COO, any clues?

This is an interesting move. I'm not sure that this is what I would have expected, but from what I am reading and hearing, Stewart will take over as COO and lots of people will now report to him. It appears that Dave Shirk will take over all of the Product Development and Management roles (adding Stewarts old position to his responsibilities) and that many of the other VPs (which Novell has a lot of) will all report to Stewart in the COO position.

From what I read in the press, it appears that Schmidt is trying to "shed" the direct reports and push them over to the COO so that he can focus on spreading the word of Novell ... and leave the day to day operations to the appropriate people. I remember just reading an interview that seemed to indicate this was his intention ...

I would wonder if this also allows him to explore more areas and maybe work with some groups more closely ...

> What will we see with regard to the group that Sheridan heads up?

Absolutely no idea ... I haven't seen Mike mentioned in the press recently ... but he has never been someone to fight for the spotlight (that I know of) ... he's always seemed to be content working on strategy and letting others fight over the cover page of PC Week ...

> Anybody care to speculate?

It is good to see some shaking going on ... I'll have to wait and hear from friends and contacts at Novell to get some inside opinions of the changes ...
