Jim, to answer your questions one-by-one:

<Someone refresh my memory about Thunderbird. Doesn't it have a full speed L2 cache on die?>

Yes.

<How would this beast benchmark?>

Very well, in my opinion. Why else would Intel need Willamette?

<Also, this conference where Intel will demo a Willy, will AMD be able to demo any thing?>

I think AMD had to play their 1.1 GHz card to try and take some of the wind out of Willy's sails. But yes, AMD is planning some separate event in Palm Springs which is scheduled to coincide with IDF. It's just a private event for the press and special guests. I don't know what AMD will demo there, since they already showed off 1.1 GHz.

Jim - RE: "Also, this conference where Intel will demo a Willy, will AMD be able to demo any thing?"

According to ZDNet, AMD will set up camp somewhere nearby. Maybe they will have a very fast Athlon behind some curtains waiting until Intel demos Willy (TM Cirruslvr) to see how fast they should clock the Athlon. ;)
