Another possibility is the over-arching threat of SDLI + ?(fill in name of your choice) becoming a threat.

Studying the charts for the past month, you can see a strong divergence 2 days after the JDSU-ETEK announcement. Jan. 17 was a holiday, so the divergence began one full trading day afterwards. A day after the Street had time to figure out the impact on the one remaining pure play in the industry. The volume on 1/19 was way above normal.

I certainly don't know what it means, but since the divergence has continued almost unabated, I'm guessing it's pretty much assumed SDLI will merge, and while I doubt anyone thinks the combination will surpass JDSU, I suspect there's some reticence to load up until the competition takes shape.

As I've said before, I hold both so it's a two-edged sword.
