To answer your first question, it makes sense b/c of the valuation the market is currently putting on tech companies in hot areas, e.g. BtoB, Optics, etc. XML will allow for easier and more flexible communications between businesses. It's more flexible than EDI and uses the internet, rather than private networks. As far as XML, below are some resources you may want to check out. msdn.microsoft.com wdvl.com
