Backers look to extend reach of Bluetooth

KAWASAKI, Japan ? The group of companies developing handsets and components based on the Bluetooth short-range wireless standard is looking at ways to increase the standard's transmission rate and expand its applications base. The group, with more than 1,300 members and growing, is exploring everything from home audio/video to automobile multimedia, according to officials from Toshiba Corp., a founding member of the consortium.
