<<Give it a break. He has a company to run.>>

LoF: I agree....Running DELL is NOT as easy as some of 'the experts' think it is. DELL is a large, fast growing, complex, global technology firm. They have done quite a good job staying ahead of the curve in most areas. I really admire their e-commerce efforts and feel that they may have some potent offerings in the 'information appliance world.' There still aren't any other firms out there with anything close to the DELL business model. Unfortunately, the hardware sector seems to be temporarily out of favor at the moment. The Fund Managers won't ignore the great opportunities in this area forever though <G>.

Best Regards,

Scott

LoF - RE <<<a lynch mob to fire Michael>>>

First of all, if you read my post again, and THINK this time before you post, you will see that I am talking about DELL management's accountability...I'm not quite sure where you get your "lynch mob" conspiracy theory from...I guess you are insinuating that MSD has no responsibility towards his shareholders because he is "running a company"...Funny, I don't see it that way...Aren't you the same guy who was arguing with edamo last week that selling puts was a bearish play??...I guess in your case ignorance is bliss...

LoF -
I for one continue to respect and admire DELL management - they DO have the most successful computer business on the planet - but a number of forces came together in the second half of 1999 that tested their mettle pretty deeply and they came up short.

There is lots of discussion in the industry at the moment about the difficulty in attracting and retaining great talent at big companies when there are so many opportunities at the dot-coms. I think the lack of a deep bench at DELL is beginning to show - even star players need some backup, no one can do it all.

and as far as Give it a break. He has a company to run.
Running the company is exactly the issue - lack of attention to the core business is, I think, a big part of the current problem. At this point in DELL's growth, they need to be able to keep the base engine humming along while they go after the Next Big Thing - if they can't do that, people will begin to wonder if they have the bandwidth to keep it together while growing the business in new directions.

RE:"I'm amazed with all of the sudden hatred for DELL management. I find it interesting that people are forming a lynch mob to fire Michael (as if that's even going to happen) over stock related matters. Give it a break. He has a company to run."

I agree. If you don't like Dell, sell.
