Kemble - OT, OT, OT

I think one of the essential ingredients to a good thread is having a variety of opinions and interpretations of the company at hand...Clearly our investment time horizons differ dramatically, but I don't doubt DELL's future potential...1 year in my mind is a long time for a company to trade sideways, or in DELL's case under-perform an overwhelmingly bullish Tech market...However, I am by no means trying to undermine your views on DELL...You certainly seem confident of a very bright future...I guess only time will tell.

Kemble -
A number of telling points in your post -
What I believe most folks don't understand is that this PC game is over...
That's the whole problem, people DO think that the PC game is over, but not the way you meant...

DELL will continue to drive a frictionless model down the throats of the competition....
The competition won't be there to be stuffed, DELL will be virtually alone. But that's not necessarily a good thing...

..And, don't think for one moment that DELL is not working out of box at a torrid pace....I've heard that many exciting and bold ventures loom for DELL...
Unfortunately, over the last 2 years, DELL has a poor record - a terrible record - on "getting out of the box" and in fact announced earlier this year that they were instead going to concentrate on their core business - and we see where that has led... DELL's competitors are "moving out of the box" at a much more torrid pace than DELL. CPQ has invested billions in dot-com and related companies, especially in the ASP space, and now has a $10B portfolio. HP is aggressively developing a mid-tier architecture which enables them in the same space. DELL has invested timidly and backed away at the first sign of trouble.

BTW....Have you done the math on 12 million units this year...vs. 47 million units by 2004?
Yes - 12M units at an ASP of $2,400 versus 47M units at an ASP of $400 is a DECLINE in revenue...
