I liked the headline on that article, Dan3, I was going to post it myself but had to check if other fans of the ever cheeky Register beat me to it.

AMD copperwhopper Intel heartstopper theregister.co.uk

The deathstar bit was the best ("known to some OEMs and distributors as Deathstar") , but the whole (small) article was a riot, I liked this bit too:

Both AMD and Intel make microprocessors, which many believe to be the brain in a personal computer.

Cheers, Dan.

Dan, now it's "Deathstar"? And this is going up against Intel's "Northwood" (Willamette shrink to 0.13u)? Quite a contrast in names here; one warlike, the other nature-lovin'.

Speaking of which, I remember Cyrix had a core that was code-named "Jedi," but then was later changed to "Gobi" because of a request from a certain movie producer. I wonder what that guy will think of "Deathstar"?

Dan3, I am not so sure that .13 is a fast walk for anyone, even Intel. The voltage gradients get fierce and that leakage gets worse and they will try and get the notch down to .06-.08(at least Intel will).
I liked the term 'death star' too. Well if AMD gets copper Athlons coming from there at 1.2 Gig it will do wonders for the shares
