<<SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (BROCADE(R)) (Nasdaq: BRCD) announced today that Hewlett-Packard Company has selected the BROCADE SilkWorm(R) 2800 Fibre Channel fabric switch as the first connectivity framework for the HP Open SAN Initiative, which was announced today by HP.>>

I would like to see a HP announcement as if there is a second or third for this 'connectivity framework'.

Brocade's release may not say it has all business which HP has to give, but if Ancor or anyone else has an OEM agreement with HP, why haven't we seen announcement of that agreement?

Here's another spin of mine. Following is an excerpt from the Brocade PR.

<<Under the terms of the OEM agreement between the two companies, HP will offer the BROCADE high-availability SilkWorm 2800 16-port switch to HP SAN customers to provide an open, networked environment for storage.>>

Brocade has another capable 8-port switch. They would have said the deal is for Brocade's family of switches instead of just the 16 porter.

When a potential large OEM such as HP intends to dual-sourced, it will do so simultaneously. I would think they will qualify different class of switches for different systems, i.e. systems for small, median and large 8-port, 16-port, 32/64/128 port. The fact HP still hasn't announce a corresponding PR lead me to believe that they are still qualifying the other systems. That said, it still does not eliminate the fact that Brocade was able to convince HP to let them release what they just did, very impressive.

In light of today's price action, drop $4.5 in the morning on 150k shares and subsequently rise back to current level on much higher volume is very encouraging to me.
