Chris, no question that any talks are close to the vest: TM+Pearse+ 2-3 guys + buyer. Of course people talk, and if more than 3 people know something then everybody knows it. This is why we hear so many rumors. But when a paper in France thinks it is worthwhile to report an American rumor about somebody buying a Canadian co, you knowÿ there is something, especially after all the previousÿ rumors. It is held close to the vest because TM does not want toeve appear that he is selling NN, his baby.ÿ This is a very last decision. All the i's must be dotted and t's crossed.ÿ You are dealing with an engineerÿ here who is going to come up with all kinds of reservations and concerns. TM is going to have to be coaxed in this.It is a major move out of what was his original view of how events should unfold. But I think TM will tire. There are too many people who for tooÿ long now are telling him to sell. I think in Canada the most acute example is NT . Everybody can see how well NT has done and NN pales in comparison. But everybody also knows that one reason there is so much hot air fanningÿ NT upwards ( giant PE ) is that it is big.And people these days buy only big techs. And it is not going to get better. In fact it will get worse. As interest rates climb, it will be difficult to get financing unless you are big.ÿ Also money for R&D. ALA has the advantage of living in a socialist country;France. They may get more government help for world expansion if French pride gets into play. I think folks are talking to TM right now. I think that TM will have a fantastic future in a bigger co with more R&D money, better sales and marketing, more international exposure etc. He could be a lead point manÿ to develop all kinds of networks. I hope you can teach an old dog new tricks. TAMessage #16900 from Chris at Feb 8 2000 9:50AM In the Ottawa area, there is much buzz but little more real information than others on this thread appear to have. Individuals at NN who usually have some insight simply don't know or there is no sale/merger agreement, or they aren't talking. In any event, real info is being held VERY tightly. Talk amongst the lower levels hasn't historically been very reliable. However, the buzz is that we are close to the point where downside is greater than the upside. A sale could happen in the $50-$55 Cdn range up to $60 CDN while an announcement to stay independent could drop us into low $30s or even high $20s CDN quickly. One local broker is suggesting that existing NN holders put in sell orders in the low $50s to lock in recent profits.
