The whole time I was living in Louisiana people wanted to know if I was from California. I think there's just too many other places in "the pot" for the Louisiana accent to prevail. My parents grew up in Biloxi, Mississippi. My mother's mother was from North Dakota. My mother's father family came from Yugoslavia. My father's mother came from Mobile, Alabama. The only one that was Cajun was my father's father, and I guess he got cancelled out. Coincidentally I was reading up on the Yugoslavians last night, turns out that my mother's maiden name is the name of one of Milosovic's generals, but it turns up in Dalmatia, too. As far as I know all the Yugoslavs in Biloxi were fishermen and seamen from Dalmatia, and Roman Catholic, not Orthodox.
