The Amazon alternative: I've saved this for last. Dick Weiss at Strong Opportunity is among the most level-headed managers around. So I'm intrigued to find in Money that he's buying Barnes & Noble (BKS). B&N's 40% ownership of spin-off barnesandnoble.com is worth $10.50 a share at current prices. That means investors are paying only $10 a share for its bricks and mortar, which is a mere 7.4 times projected 2000 eps. With profits growing 20% a year, that's a great deal in my book.
