<<Some favored a bi- national solution (one state, two peoples), but were thwarted, both by Zionists of other views, and by Arab rejection.....>> This idea never had a chance. This region will not rest until judgement day.

<<I am not sure why Western interests would not like to see the current impasse replaced with a cooperation on security matters, though.>> The establishment of Isreal was supported by non-Zionists largely because it represented an economic foothold to an otherwise inaccessable middle eastern resource. The Alaska of the middle east in some respects. Zionists have a very different view of whats up with Isreal. We (Americans) are going to have our come uppance in the next decade, IMO. If I were Jewish I would be terrified at the thought of stability and cooperation of the neighboring Arab countries. This has a serious impact on American policy in the region. If I were a gringo I'd be perfectly happy with the state of affairs as they are (Them thar Isrealis are ma buds).
