Charles, QwikSand & JDN,

Here is an example of such a story:

yahoo.cnet.com

Note this bit: "...the 64-bit Itanium chip. It's Intel's first foray into a high-end market largely defined by such companies as Sun Microsystems..."

Now I don't have any projections as to how much of an effect it will have on Sun sales, or at what rate. What is important at this time is that this sort of story is getting out where Itanium and Sun are compared. It is a threat to Sun and one that Sun will respond to appropriately - but Sun without this threat would have a higher stock price than Sun with this threat.

Itanium is going to get a lot of press from now until its launch (and beyond). This will affect stock prices. I wouldn't say I am a day trader but I will make investment decisions that deviate from long terms fundamental outlook if I think there is more money to be made that day. For instance I recently sold INTC at 100 and something and repurchased at 102. In the meantime I made a good profit on PCMS, TRIGBY & GBT so am better off than if I held throughout.
