A bunch of Novell partnership announcements today

PeopleSoft Bundles Novell NDS(R) eDirectory(TM) with PeopleSoft 8
eBusiness Applications to Lower Network Administration Costs

Novell and PeopleSoft today announced that PeopleSoft will bundle
Novell's cross-platform NDS(R) eDirectory(TM) with PeopleSoft 8
eBusiness applications, allowing PeopleSoft customers to lower
cross-enterprise network costs.
This partnership marks the first time a major eBusiness
applications company has bundled Novell NDS with its product
offerings.
Novell NDS eDirectory reduces the complexity and cost of managing
multiple user identities and profiles across numerous applications.
Integrated with PeopleSoft 8, Novell NDS eDirectory allows information
systems managers to unify employee, customer, and partner directories
and passwords based on existing business processes, while users can
access all PeopleSoft eBusiness applications through a single profile.
"Novell and PeopleSoft share a large mutual customer base who
consider directory-enabled applications to be critical to running and
enhancing their businesses," said Eric Schmidt, Novell chairman and
CEO. "Direct NDS eDirectory integration will provide PeopleSoft
customers with the ability to manage and protect their identities,
giving them the functionality and flexibility needed to easily and
safely utilize the Internet to grow their businesses."
"The inclusion of Novell's eDirectory technology into
PeopleSoft's platform is a very exciting development," said Robert B.
Rothermel, Global Managing Director of Deloitte & Touche's Enterprise
Risk Services practice. "Authentication, security and control are
central to a successful PeopleSoft implementation and roll out. As
global leaders in risk management and control consulting, we see the
significant value that the eDirectory solution can provide our clients
in addressing their need to improve user identity and management
capabilities, which is central to their eBusiness strategies."
Novell NDS eDirectory enables businesses to create customized and
secure relationships with employees, customers, and partners.
Businesses can integrate customers into their directories, and
business partners can combine their eBusiness solutions to communicate
with each other via shared directories.
Novell NDS eDirectory also allows businesses to cultivate
customer loyalty by laying the foundation for capturing, storing,
organizing, and leveraging important identity information such as
customer demographics, product interest, buying patterns,
transactions, product feedback, and satisfaction levels.
"Novell has a vision for eDirectory services in the Internet
economy, and they are executing on that vision with an excellent
product," said Peter Gassner, vice president and general manager of
the PeopleTools technology division at PeopleSoft. "Our PeopleTools 8
Internet architecture, which shipped in December of 1999, leverages
Novell's cross-platform LDAP directory and security foundation for
integration across both applications and networks. This is key to
enabling the virtual enterprise and providing value to our customers."

Commerce

-- ZENworks for Networks is Directory-Enabled, Delivering True End-to-End
Quality of Service

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Novell, Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVL) today
announced ZENworks for Networks, a new Net services software product that
enables organizations to establish policies that automate the management of
network equipment and control quality of service across multiple networks.
Leveraging Novell's NDS(R) eDirectory(TM), ZENWorks(TM) for networks expands
the ability of organizations to manage Net services in an e-business
environment, map business needs to the way they use the network, and ensure a
rich and reliable Net experience for employees, customers and business
partners.
"End-to-end directory-enabled management is what businesses need to
simplify management tasks and to ensure the effective delivery of Net services
to their customers," said Dave Shirk, Novell senior vice president of product
management. "ZENworks for Networks builds upon Novell's strength in
directory-enabled management to deliver a true end-to-end solution for
policy-based network management. This product extends Novell's eDirectory
story, establishing an important new role for Novell's directory at the center
of e-business."
ZENworks for Networks, available today, allows administrators to customize
and control bandwidth use by application and by user on network equipment such
as switches and routers from leading vendors. As a result, organizations can
establish bandwidth limits and other policies that efficiently align network
use with business needs, including service-level agreements with e-business
partners and customers. Efficient, end-to-end quality of service management
with NDS enables organizations to optimize their investments in network
infrastructure, reduce administration costs, and focus resources in areas of
the network, such as mission-critical applications, that will most increase
business efficiency and productivity.
"We are happy to see Novell introduce management products supporting
Cisco-based networks," said Bill Ahlstrom, senior director of Cisco's
enterprise management business unit. "This is a clear demonstration of the
value of the Directory Enabled Networks (DEN) and the Common Information Model
(CIM) standards that Cisco has helped pioneer."
"Directory-enabled management is an important component of Novell's recent
successes," said John Hidalgo, Novell product manager for ZENworks for
Networks and Chair of the DMTF DEN Working Group. "Open standards have always
been an important component of Novell Products. In the management arena, DEN
and CIM are strategic to Novell."
Through its new Consultant and Systems Integrator (CSI) program, Novell is
working with leading consulting and systems integrators such as Perot Systems
to add value to ZENworks for Networks and make it available in custom
solutions.
"In addition to improving quality of service for the enterprise networks
managed by Perot Systems, we expect ZENworks for Networks will be an essential
tool for the delivery of ASP services to our customers," said Gary
Castleberry, vice president of systems integration at Perot Systems.

More Novell products released

Introduces New Net Services Software to Eliminate Network Barriers to Internet
Business

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- During a major press event held
today at its Silicon Valley Conference Center, Novell, Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVL)
announced the next phase in its directory-based networking strategy by
introducing software and partnerships that make e-business more simple and
secure for organizations of all kinds and sizes. Today's announcements also
highlighted the company's market focus on Net services software: a category of
software that provides universal services to secure and power all types of
networks -- wired to wireless, corporate and public, the Internet, intranets,
and extranets -- across all leading operating systems.
Novell's(R) Net services software eliminates traditional network
boundaries to help create one Net, a secure and efficient foundation for
conducting business inside, outside and between organizations. Leading
hardware, software, channel and consulting services vendors including
BroadVision Inc., Compaq Computer Corporation, Eprise Corporation, IBM,
INTERSHOP Communications Inc., JetForm Corporation, NetDocuments, PeopleSoft,
Perot Systems, Plumtree Software Inc., Terasys Inc., Reliable Integration
Services, Whittman-Hart Inc., and Wizmo joined forces with Novell to endorse
and help bring to market the new Net services products unveiled today.
The new products advance Novell's strategy announced this fall, to make
NDS(R) eDirectory(TM) the foundation for e-business solutions that extend
beyond the immediate enterprise to customers and supply-chain partners. NDS
eDirectory is an open, standards-based directory service that is the
foundation for managing network resources across all leading operating systems
in one Net environments. Novell also announced partnerships that combine the
power of its Net services software with third-party products and services to
result in complete Net solutions.

New Novell Net Services Software
The new Novell Net services software products and associated partnerships
announced today (see separate releases) are:
-- iChain, secure intranet and extranet integration services that become
the foundation for linking business processes between multiple
companies, through the Net, and for supplying net-based services in a
hosted environment, with full billing systems integration. An extension
of NDS eDirectory services, iChain(TM) allows fine-grained security to
be established between organizations, while simplifying the way in
which rights and privileges are managed. Groups of users or entire
companies/organizations can be assigned security privileges that
reflect their role in a business process, to receive secure, controlled
access to the information and applications they need. iChain will be
made available via a controlled release to select Novell partners
within 60 days of today's announcement.

For an expanding ecosystem of Novell partners, including software
vendors and system integrators, iChain provides a much-needed platform
to build new applications and business processes that leverage or re-
purpose information already captured. As an example, today Whittman-
Hart announced a new iChain initiative called e-Catalog, an end-to-end
e-commerce solution that allows companies to leverage their ERP
software investment and offer their Internet customers a personalized
catalog of products and services.

-- ZENworks for Servers, a Net services management product that simplifies
and centralizes management of multiple servers across networks.
ZENworks for Servers also allows administrators to set policies that
automatically distribute content (such as server application updates)
anywhere on the Net, to manage how and when policies are enforced.
ZENworks for Servers will be available in early March.

-- ZENworks for Networks, Net services software that allows organizations
to establish policies that automate the management of network equipment
and control quality of service across multiple networks. Rules,
policies and bandwidth limits can be applied by application or user on
devices from many different vendors, including Cisco, 3Com and Lucent,
to efficiently align network use with real business needs. For example,
ZENworks(TM) for Networks gives network equipment makers the ability to
provide a new class of network services to their customers as well as
improve the overall management and delivery of network resources.
ZENworks for Networks is shipping now.

-- Novell eGuide, a software applications service that gives users in
organizations a powerful but simple way to quickly find and make one-
click connections with the people, places and things across networks,
all from a single location on the Net. Novell eGuide will be available
the week of Feb. 14, 2000.

One Net Demonstration
Joining with systems integrator partner Whittman-Hart, and independent
software vendors Eprise and Jetforms, Novell walked step by step through
demonstrations of NDS eDirectory, iChain, ZENworks for Networks, ZENworks for
Servers and Novell eGuide working together with partner software and services
in a "one Net" setting. The demonstration was based on real-world
organizational scenarios -- for example, a company that, through a third-party
hosted extranet, is offering software leasing to its customers and partners;
and an organization looking for a more efficient way for employees to manage
their own travel arrangements via the Web. The demonstrations also illustrated
challenges faced by system integrators who need a framework that can be easily
adapted to different markets and customer requirements and showed how they can
utilize Novell Net services software to provide these solutions.
"The Net economy is about creating greater efficiencies in doing business,
and making the Net experience personal and compelling," said Steve Adams,
Novell senior vice president for worldwide marketing. "With products like
these, and the support of our partners, Novell is providing organizations with
a way to adapt and accelerate their transformation to e-business. Net services
software simplifies the management and control of all networks, creates a
secure foundation for doing business on the Net, and helps deliver a
consistent and high-quality experience to end users in all locations."

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Novell, Inc., (Nasdaq: NOVL)
today announced iChain(TM), secure intranet and extranet integration services
that become the foundation for linking business processes between multiple
companies through the Net. In addition, iChain provides a foundation for
these services in hosting environments, with full billing system integration.
An extension of NDS(R) eDirectory(TM) services, iChain allows fine-grained
security to be established between organizations, while simplifying the way in
which rights and privileges are managed. Groups of users or entire
organizations can be assigned security privileges that reflect their role in a
business process, to receive secure, controlled access to the information and
applications they need.
"iChain provides companies a very real ability to extend their traditional
business relationships and processes to customers and partners on the Net,"
commented Dave Shirk, Novell(R) senior vice president, product management.
"iChain represents an evolution of Novell's traditional expertise -- managing
business resources with a directory on internal networks -- to managing
business resources with our directory on one Net merging the enterprise and
the Internet."
For an expanding ecosystem of Novell partners, including software vendors
and system integrators, iChain provides a much-needed platform to build and
integrate applications and business processes that leverage or re-purpose
information already captured. As an example, today Whittman-Hart announced a
new iChain initiative called e-Catalog, an end-to-end e-commerce solution that
allows companies to leverage their ERP software investment and offer their
Internet customers a personalized catalog of products and services.
Authorize.Net, a leading payment authorization service for online business
worldwide, is pleased to announce their support of iChain. "We see Novell
taking the next logical step in the establishment of an e-business
infrastructure by introducing integration points from their new iChain service
to online merchant services and transaction processing," said David O. Heaps,
president and CEO of Authorize.Net. "Leveraging its directory competence to
provide enhanced e-commerce capabilities will ensure that Novell's e-business
initiatives are successful." For more information on Authorize.Net see
authorize.net.
Several leading e-business companies, including Broadvision, Intershop and
Plumtree Software, among others, announced support today for iChain.
Additionally, iChain-related services will be available from Novell Channel
partners as well as via Novell Consulting and System Integrator partners later
this year. Novell Consulting Services and its integrator partners are
providing multiple Business Solution Offerings that leverage the power of
iChain and the B2B issues that iChain addresses. Please see
www.novell.com/ichain for specific partner and channel announcements.
IDC predicts that commerce conducted over the Internet will top
$3 trillion by the year 2003. While providing a directory-based
infrastructure framework for business-to-business commerce with iChain, Novell
will work with its partners to provide customers with a complete end-to-end
solution.

iChain Functionality
Dubbed "iChain" for its role in managing relationships between a
corporation's suppliers, customers and partners in an Internet supply chain,
this framework from Novell demonstrates the power and flexibility of NDS
eDirectory in providing management and control over millions of disparate
pieces of data and information. Specifically, iChain provides common
security, authentication, and management for e-business applications in a
business-to-business environment. A complete white paper detailing the
components and capabilities of iChain is available at: www.novell.com/ichain.

Highlights include:
-- NDS eDirectory -- Novell's next-generation directory services provide a
software foundation for secure, scalable e-business applications and services
that can be customized to meet the needs and preferences of individual
consumers and business users. iChain leverages Novell's replication
technology, including DirXML, which enables eDirectory to present a unified
view of data and information by integrating the disparate data systems in an
environment.
-- Extranet Access Management -- manages and protects the information and
integrity of Web-based business transactions over the Internet. Provides
employees and customers with access to the Web resources based on their roles
and privileges. Security services within iChain provide secure access and
ensure confidentiality.
-- DirCommerce (Directory Commerce Services) -- extends NDS by adding the
ability for companies to host complete commerce services for e-business by
adding fee-based goods and services into the directory. In addition, billing
and reporting tools are provided to assist with financial management.
Integration tools are also available to assist customers who wish to leverage
their existing billing and reporting processes.
-- Authentication Proxy -- is responsible for the authentication of all
users to the network using various means such as passwords, tokens, smart
cards, certificates, and biometrics. The authentication server also provides
a single sign-on for all applications the user has access to.
-- Community Services -- allows for the creation of communities of users
and define policies and rights for those users. Custom portals can be created
for the various digital communities based on areas of interest.
-- E-Business Application Integration -- open APIs and support for LDAP
and DirXML are available for easy integration of third party e-commerce and
other applications. Additionally, Novell is actively engaging in partnerships
with the market leaders in the e-business space in order to deliver together
complete solutions leveraging the iChain infrastructure.

Availability
iChain will be available via a controlled release to select partners

Allows Users to Quickly Find and Make One-click Connections Across the Net

Finds Information in NDS eDirectory and Other Data Sources

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Novell, Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVL) today
announced the availability of Novell(R) eGuide, a software applications
service that gives users in organizations a powerful but simple way to quickly
find and make one-click connections with people, places and things across
networks, all from a single location on the Net. Organizations, including
services providers, can use eGuide to facilitate access to select directory
information within companies and between companies, their customers and
suppliers.
Novell eGuide enables users to access data stored in NDS eDirectory(TM)
and any data source that supports the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol
(LDAP) standard, including, when authorized, the Internet and enterprise
directories customers and suppliers. Users can find names, phone and fax
numbers, locations, e-mail addresses, network IDs, and can customize eGuide
for access to any type of information stored in the data source. Once users
locate a person, they can launch communications such as e-mail and instant
messaging from within an easy-to-use interface that runs on any Web browser.
In addition, future versions will support access to a broader range of data
sources, including Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) databases.
"Because it is Web-based, Novell's eGuide lets us access corporate
information fast and easy with only a Web browser," said Gunnar Bengtsson of
Volvo IT, supporting networks for the Swedish automotive giant. "eGuide is
simple yet customizable. There is a Swedish word for it -- lagom -- that
translates roughly 'not too heavy' or 'just right.'"
"Success in the Net economy means learning how to establish and interact
in digital communities," said Dave Shirk, Novell senior vice president for
product management. "Novell eGuide helps those customers build and fully
participate in those communities by fostering quick and efficient
communication."
Written in JAVA, eGuide runs on a variety of operating systems, including
NetWare(R), NT, UNIX and Linux. Novell's eGuide is also accessible from any
standard Web browser. In addition, Novell eGuide searches information far
faster than typical Web applications because it establishes a direct
connection with the data source it queries.

Availability and Pricing
Novell eGuide will ship within the next two weeks. Pricing will be
announced at that time.
