What would happen if you got the regulars' email addresses, either by checking their profile or by gathering by PM and put them together in a group. Then you would have to send one email, one click to select the whole whack of posters and be done with it. If people aren't checking email...that's up to them. Flag it high priority.

All the best,
Margie

SI has to create a CC option on private message feature, other wise you have to have another realtime chat room, NOT, already have too much to follow, too many windows open,
then there is off course email, sometimes I am 5 minutes behind checking them, then there are server delays.

In a nutzshell, your guess is as good as mine ;O)

Chief,

From a lurker...why not use ICQ...sits on the bottom of your screen, and you can send a quick message to a group of people faster than e-mail will ever be read.

It would take the same amount of work as gathering e-mail addresses, but once you have them, it's awesome!

icq.com

Paul

P.S. If it works for you, don't hesitate to add me to your 'Heads up' list:)

I used to follow the 'No Rest for the Wicked' thread and there, Tim Luke, who started the tread, would send out his messages in some kind of code that only the regular posters were given the key to unscramble. I thought that was a bit much for those simply trying to follow the thread. I think some bundled PM or email would do the trick.

I think email would work best. You could put everyone's email addresses in the BCC: (Blind Carbon Copy) of the message and that way everyone's email address is kept confidential.

Yup. I'd say e-mail too. Mine alarms me when new mail comes in so I can check it right away. Need sound card and speakers, of course. ICQ would be OK,I guess. It does have a visual alert. I think e-mail makes more sense but could live with ICQ. My $0.02!! - Stew

It would be nice if SI had a another button beside submit in your reply post, when you press it, would send a message to all people that you have mark in PEOPLEMARKS and it would go to their INBOX ,and as soon as they press next message it would show up. **I'M DAY DREAMING ** again..LoL

Here are my thoughts on giving a heads up to the "chosen few" Chief....

1) ICQ would be perfect - BUT - everyone would have to download the program and run it all day during trading hours. Verdict: Not likely to work....

2) Email - This would work nicely except for the fact that many people do not get automatically alerted when their email arrives. Therefore many of the people you wished to alert would not become aware of the heads up until after the trading day is over. This could work decently though if you posted a message on this thread telling everyone to check their email!!

3) A simple code that is known by the people you want to alert. This method works perfectly in that it keeps all communications centred here on SI. You could type out the info on the stock in plain english, and then just code the stock symbol. The alert could be posted to this thread, or a special "Chief's Alerts" thread that would only be used for that purpose (other than your special alerts it would remain silent.... that way if a message appeared in that thread we would all know you had posted an alert... kinda like a "Bat Signal" in Gotham city.... <gggg>... everybody knows what it means....) The code could be as simple as shifting the letters of the ticker symbol a certain number of letters up or down in the alphabet. I know of other possible codes we could use also... as long as the code is just the ticker symbol everybody who knows the key to the code could decipher it quickly.

I like the code idea because it keeps everything centered here.... but the email method might avoid the hassles of everyone who isn't already in the loop wanting to get in the loop and PM'ing you like crazy. If you come up with a "non-obvious" phrase to post here that would tell people to check their email for one of your special alerts, that would be best...

O great and mighty Chief..did you ever consider that in the greatest Bull Market of all time that it is the peons of the world that are carrying the ADX's and Snow Lepard's onward and upward and not just the "chosen ones."Ask yourself this, how well would they have moved if you had your secret society? And one of your members might be a bit disgruntled when some one spills the beans to early and they don't have there boat filled yet. There might come a day when you will be able to "use" the unwashed masses and they won't be around but that's OK the "chosen ones" will carry the Market for you.And a big grin to you Chief.
PS I wonder how busy these threads and brokerages would be in a bear for two or three years.<<gg>>

I don't post very often because I don't always fit the rules of this thread - US stocks and some low balls but I quit watching Tim Luke's thread when he went secret society and actually I did better without lurking on his thread seeing the same posters and the same stocks. I've enjoyed your thread and think you are an asset to SI and as such you've got quite a following of good posters and would hate to see you go secret. Just my opinion of course.
