Yup...you haven't heard the story...?

It used to be part of springsteens show...he'd tell how he, [on a Jersey to CA drive], in Nevada, in the desert, he saw a sign hanging over the entrance to a dusty road...it had 'Thunder Road' on it.

He was also familiar with the movie...a websearch re: this will likely yield more 'precise' details...
