Slightly OT but not very - this idea would need a full service Directory at the center to make it even possible.

Last night I was watching CNN late at night (I believe) and they were talking with some people at the Goldman Sachs Technogoly Symposium (where Dr Schmidt will talk on Thursday). They interviewed and profiled a company called AutoDesk (they create software for architects, building designers etc).

They were extending their software into the internet space (where else?). To allow designers from multiple firms and/or clients to view "works in progress", share information etc.

I was thinking, would it be interesting if a designer could check their designs against current building codes and regulations via the internet? Let's forgo the details right now, just the concept -

1) Designer(s) develop plan for new building according to spec of builder/owner.
2) Designer submits design/blueprint for qualification authorization to web service that checks the design for compliance with local, state and federal regulations/codes.
3) Designer recieves a critical review of the plans (errors, fixes etc) to implement then resubmits revised plans until approved.

This would streamline the development process and offer a valuable service no?
