What place, if any, do you see Cymer (DUV lasers) playing in the CD area?

So a CD set for one of Bruce's operas that now comes in a box with 3 CDs will be able to be recorded on just one CD. Or all three Godfather movies may fit on one DVD.

This would be fine for now, but I really think we are going to end up on hard disks of some type. Look at the amount of MP3 you can store on hard disk. CD's may turn out to have a very short product life.

I have PM'd Stockhawk, and at his suggestion, will post this for the thread.

RE his and other's observations about commercial blue lasers, there is speculation that they are not commercially available.

I have been doing some searching lately and came upon two items that might be of interest to some CREEtins. In among the hundreds of research articles, ads for Blue Laser sunglasses, and Blue Laser bikini's, found some interesting things. You may have seen before, but were new to me.

First this is a link to a French company which is selling CD player systems with a blue laser. I couldn't find a date, but appears to be 1998/1999 vintage.

And one of several reviews for the exceptional quality.

I have sent an Email to the company asking for the type and source of the blue lasers they are using. Will post if/when they reply.
