If you own COMS are you assured of getting the palm IPO?
I believe the correct answer is "pretty much assured", Since an IPO is neither death or taxes some unforeseen event may interfere with our best made plans.

My understanding is that if you own COMS, you'll indirectly participate in the IPO, since COMS will only sell a minority fraction of PALM to the public at the outset (the IPO), and the remainder will be held by COMS. Then, in the future, if you continue to hold your COMS, you will receive PALM shares when the rest of PALM is liberated by COMS.

FCC,

If you own COMS are you assured of getting the palm IPO?

I think your question is referring to a "directed IPO", where a current stock holder is given the first chance to buy IPO shares in spin off. CMGI uses that technique; but, so far, there has been no indication that COMS is even considering such a path. So, I'd have to say the answer to your question is probably NO.

Of course, if PALM shoots up like many expect, then COMS might go up a little too. Then there's the dividend distribution of COMS's remaining PALM holdings sometime in the future. Those are the PALM shares the COMS holders will get.

But no, it doesn't sound like you'll guaranteed an IPO allocation by virtue of being a COMS holder.
Wish it were so...Alski
