AMD Investors - Atiq Raza & Intel Team Up on Investment - to Support Intel's Networking Architecture !!! "Additional investors include the Intel Communications Fund, Synopsys, the Raza Venture Fund, Dado Banatao, Anthelion Capital, and Comdisco Ventures. ""The unique combination of network-ready smart DRAM memory functions provides Silicon Access with a significant advantage over other companies entering the 10G and above space," said Atiq Raza of Raza Venture Management. "No other company has the benefit of a world-class DRAM circuit design team along with a world-class network architecture team." Now why doesn't AMD do this sort of thing ??? Paul {==========================}newsalert.com February 08, 2000 09:21 Silicon Access Technology, Inc. Announces Second Funding Round Jump to first matched term SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2000--Silicon Access Technology, Inc. (www.siliconaccess.com), a provider of high performance communication products to the terabit router market, today announced it has successfully completed its second round of funding. Silicon Access is a privately owned company based in San Jose, California. The company raised a total of $28M in this round, including $21M in equity and $7M in other financing. The investment will help enable Silicon Access to complete its proprietary chip set for terabit router line cards. The chip set is based upon the company's innovations in embedded DRAM technology. "The compelling feature of Silicon Access' chip set will be its low chip count and scalability," said Perry Constantine, CEO of Silicon Access. "The breakthrough in density represented by the chip set is enabled by a unique systems architecture based upon the use of embedded DRAM technology, which makes possible a dramatic increase in bandwidth while at the same time reducing pin count and power." The funding round was co-led by Norwest Venture Partners and the Sprout Group, the venture capital affiliate of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. Additional investors include the Intel Communications Fund, Synopsys, the Raza Venture Fund, Dado Banatao, Anthelion Capital, and Comdisco Ventures. Kevin Hall, a general partner with Norwest Venture Partners and Director of Silicon Access, commented: "We are pleased to participate in the progress of Silicon Access as the provider of an enabling chip set for the terabit market. The company's development of unique high-density, high-performance embedded DRAM technology positions it well to establish the leading position in the emerging 10-Gigabit market." Farrokh Billimoria, a general partner with the Sprout Group, has joined the Board of Directors of Silicon Access. "Silicon Access' proprietary network system architectures and high-performance DRAM technology have positioned the company to be a primary force in the network switch revolution," said Mr. Billimoria. "Our investment in the company represents an excellent opportunity for Sprout to participate in this fast growing market. We believe the company has one of the smartest and most innovative technical and management teams in the industry." The $200 million Intel Communications Fund was created in 1999 to invest in companies supporting Intel's key programs and initiatives in voice and data communications. The fund, which makes minority equity investments of typically less than $10 million, is initially focused on investments in companies developing solutions based on CT Media, as well as on Intel's Internet Exchange (TM) architecture. The fund is managed and controlled by Intel Capital. The Intel IX architecture is a comprehensive "blueprint" for building next-generation networking systems. The Intel IX architecture and network processor enable systems designers to add new network functionality quickly and cost-effectively. "We are pleased to have Intel and the new investors join this round," said Dado Banatao, Chairman the Board of Silicon Access. "Such network-centric investors will be valuable as we enter the terabit router chipset space." "The unique combination of network-ready smart DRAM memory functions provides Silicon Access with a significant advantage over other companies entering the 10G and above space," said Atiq Raza of Raza Venture Management. "No other company has the benefit of a world-class DRAM circuit design team along with a world-class network architecture team." Founded in 1997, Silicon Access Technology, Inc. is a private company that provides 10 gigabit and above chip sets for the terabit router marketplace. Its products are based upon advanced smart memory functions that are a combination of very fast, very wide embedded DRAM and closely coupled algorithm-based logic based upon proprietary network algorithms. Silicon Access is a full-service semiconductor manufacturing company. The Company's products will be based upon high-performance 0.18 micron embedded DRAM wafers manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. CONTACT: Silicon Access Rex Naden, 408/545-1110
