Here's another guess.

In order to keep ahead in the GHz race Intel would have to demo 1.2 gig air cooled. This is asking a bit much of an untuned Willamette and so they will choose instead to go for a higher speed force-cooled demo, perhaps at 1.4 GHz.

Also, if Intel do pull off an AMD-beating air cooled demo then I suspect that we may see a faster Athlon demo on the same day.
